How to Find Pickleball Referee Tournaments and Sign Up

Looking for your next tournament to referee? Start with dates you can work, a location you can reach, and the requirements you meet. Then follow the event’s referee application instructions. Here is how to go from browsing an opportunity to knowing where your application stands.

Browse referee tournaments

Find events that fit your availability

Open Referee Opportunities and narrow the listings by location, dates, credentials, and paid or volunteer opportunities. Open the tournament page to read the referee details, not just the event name. A player registration link and a referee application can be different processes.

A listing marked “Referee Signup Opens Soon” is a planning opportunity. Save it and check back for the organizer’s registration instructions. Past events remain useful as tournament history, but they are not current staffing openings.

Compare the whole assignment before applying

Payment is only one part of deciding whether a tournament works for you. A nearby volunteer event and a paid event requiring several nights away can have very different costs. Use the terms actually provided on the listing; if a detail is missing, ask the organizer before making commitments.

Quick checklist

  • Which days and shifts can you commit to, including check-in or briefing time?
  • Does the assignment require a particular referee credential or level of experience?
  • Is compensation offered, how is it calculated, and when is it paid?
  • Are lodging, meals, or travel assistance included, and under what conditions?
  • Who coordinates the referees, and how will selection or schedule changes be communicated?

Use the signup option on the tournament page

The “How to Apply” section explains where the application goes. Some events accept applications on PickleballOfficials. Others send you to an external registration service or ask you to contact the referee coordinator. Follow that specific route so your interest reaches the person staffing the event.

For an application on PickleballOfficials, sign in as a referee and submit the requested information. For external registration, complete the organizer’s process on that service. Returning here and marking that you applied externally is a personal tracking step; it does not submit another application.

Keep your plans and the referee crew connected

A free referee account lets you save tournaments and maintain your referee profile. On event pages with community tools available, use the tournament discussion to coordinate practical details with other officials. Keep private travel or contact details in the appropriate private conversation.

When you share an opportunity, share its tournament page. That gives another referee the event dates, requirements, and signup instructions in one place. Recheck those details before applying because staffing needs and registration windows can change.

New to officiating? Choose an appropriate next step

Read the requirements instead of assuming every tournament accepts new referees. Ask the listed contact whether the event offers an appropriate role for your current experience. If you need training or credentials first, use the referee learning guides to understand the path and verify requirements with the credentialing organization.

Your next step can be small: find one event, check its requirements, and decide whether to apply or prepare for a future opportunity. A complete, current profile helps you explain your experience when you do make contact.
