Pickleball Line Judge Basics
A pickleball line judge is responsible for the lines and decisions assigned under the event's officiating system. Strong line judging depends on a clear assignment, an approved position, sustained attention, decisive communication when the view is clear, and the proper response when it is not.
Know exactly what is assigned
Before play, confirm the lines or responsibilities assigned to you, the event-approved position, the required signals or calls, and how the referee will communicate with the crew. Do not borrow mechanics from a different rule set or broadcast.

Build a useful visual routine
A mentor or approved officiating guide should teach the specific visual mechanic. In practice, notice whether your body position and attention support the assigned view. The aim is to see the relevant landing clearly without following unrelated action.
Communicate only through the approved method
Use the signal, voice, timing, and response process specified by the event. Clear does not mean theatrical. Avoid adding commentary, reacting to the crowd, or debating a decision with a player.

Practice with feedback
Line judging benefits from supervised repetitions. Ask the observer to assess your attention, position, timing, and communication separately. A correct result reached with an unreliable habit still deserves coaching.
